This simple move strengthens your legs, hips, glutes and pelvis, and helps ease lower back tension by working the core and lower back muscles.
- Sit with your back straight, knees bent at about 45 degrees, feet shoulder-width apart.
- Place a resistance band around both legs, just above the knees.
- Push your knees outward as far as you can, hold for 5 to 15 seconds (working up to 60), then bring them slowly back together.
Aim for 5 reps, 2 sets a day. It’s especially useful if you sit for most of the day, since sitting weakens the glutes and tightens the hip flexors, forcing your lower back to take on extra load. You can also do it lying on the floor.
